Yoga Vimarsh - Abha Mandalache Vidnyan ( Session 23 )
The Science of the Aura as a Modern Discipline
At Vivekananda Kendra Vedantic Application of Yoga and Management (VK VAYAM), Pranav Nagari, Solapur, the 23rd session of “Yoga Vimarsha” was conducted on 14 February 2026. On this occasion, a lecture on the topic “The Science of the Aura as a Modern Medical Discipline” was delivered by Dr. Anup Dev.
Dr. Anup Dev is a dental surgeon and also the founder of the Institute of Biofield Evaluations and Research Centre. In his lecture, he explained the concept of the aura, also known as the biofield. He mentioned that this science is described in the 17th chapter of the Charaka Samhita and emphasized that it is an ancient and highly advanced science. He also stated that research on this field has begun in developed countries in the 21st century.
He explained that every individual has an aura roughly the size of a football surrounding them. According to him, the human body consists of gross, subtle, and causal bodies. The body is made up of five sheaths (koshas): the Annamaya Kosha (physical sheath) in the gross body, and the Pranamaya, Manomaya, Vijnanamaya, and Anandamaya Koshas in the subtle body.
He further explained that the gross body is governed by the subtle body through 72,000 nadis (energy channels), seven chakras, and the five koshas. Any disease first manifests in the subtle body before appearing in the gross body. The causes of these diseases include past-life impressions (samskaras), present lifestyle, and other factors, which he illustrated with examples.
Dr. Dev elaborated on the functions of each kosha and provided information about the seven chakras, including their locations, associated sounds (letters), and their application in treatment. He also explained that his research center studies the aura by scanning it (taking photographs), through which past, present, and future health conditions can be analyzed.
According to him, this scanning captures the emission of biophotons produced by thoughts and bodily processes. While modern medical diagnostics detect diseases after they appear in the body, this method of holistic assessment can predict potential future illnesses without physical contact.
He also discussed the scientific aspects of Indian temples and how their frequencies are beneficial. Through images, he demonstrated how these frequencies affect the human aura.
Overall, the audience gained insight into the advanced nature of this ancient science developed by Indian sages. He emphasized how the sages combined spirituality with science and conveyed it in a simple manner. His message highlighted that the energy systems—chakras, nadis, and koshas—are already within us, and it is our responsibility to nurture, expand, and maintain them.
The program was introduced by Mr. Vaman Dada Kulkarni. The speaker was introduced by Ms. Vaishali Tai Waghirkar. The prayer was conducted by Kumari Gargi Ghungurde. The program concluded with remarks by the project head, Mr. Suhas Deshpande. The event was anchored by Mrs. Nandini Tai Swami. The audience received comprehensive knowledge about this ancient and profound science.
